Verifiable Credentials VC
Definition
W3C standard (VC v2.0, 2024) for cryptographically signed digital credentials issued by an authority and presented by a subject to a verifier without contacting the issuer. Three roles: Issuer (e.g., government, university), Holder (subject with wallet), Verifier (relying party). Enables selective disclosure and zero-knowledge proofs — present age without revealing birthdate.
